Initially, breeders bred new amaryllis varieties by choosing the best and most unique among many (Ballerina, Lion King or Marylin), but now for more commercial success, varieties are registered in a series that have a similar shape and color variations. Among the terry series of hippeastrum are the well-known Nymph, Peacock, and relatively new Amadeus, Glory, Belle series. Some growers choose new plants to collect the entire series of varieties, such as Nymph.
Double hippeastrum of the Nymph series
This is a very large variety series, the first representative of which appeared back in 1996. The Nymph variety is characterized by a peony-like shape, compact flowers of red, crimson or cream hue with red-brown, orange, pink stripes; the number of flowers up to 25 cm in diameter on a peduncle about 40-50 cm high is 4 pieces; the number of petals is 14-16 pieces; there are inner petals and, in rare cases, stamen filaments with pollen.
Double hippeastrum of the Peacock series
The first variety of the Peacock series was registered in 1996. Varieties of this series have 4-6 upwardly directed bright red flowers with a diameter of 16-17 cm on a peduncle 35-55 cm long. Sometimes a thin white vein runs along the petal to the thickened white tip, which is the remnant of the stamen filament.
Double amaryllis of the Amadeus series
The first 3 varieties of this series were registered in 2016 ("Amadeus C.", "Striped A.", and "Giant A.") Then in 2019, 2 more varieties ("White A." and "Flamed A.") The last variety "Flamingo A." was registered in April 2021.
This series of hippeastrum is characterized by ruffles along the edges and corrugation of the petals. The petals themselves are slightly elongated. The flower is large, double with a white center, the edges of the petals are covered with strokes. Plant height is 55-65 cm, flower diameter is 17-19 cm.
