Our sizes & quality

Every amaryllis we sell is grown by specialist growers, mostly in the Netherlands, and checked by hand before it ships. The size on each product page is the bulb’s circumference in centimetres: the bigger the bulb, the more flower stems it usually produces.

What do the bulb sizes mean?

The size is measured around the widest part of the bulb. A bulb marked 30/32, for example, measures 30 to 32 cm around. The bulb stores all the energy the plant needs to flower, so as a general rule:

  • 18/20 and 22/24 cm – typical for compact varieties such as Sonatini and some spider types, which naturally form smaller bulbs.
  • 26/28 cm – usually 1–2 flower stems.
  • 28/30 cm – usually 2 flower stems.
  • 30/32 cm and larger – our top sizes, usually 2 or more stems with large flowers.

Each stem typically carries 2–4 large flowers (4–6 on some varieties). Exact results depend on the variety and on growing conditions.

How we guarantee quality

  • BKD member: Dutch-Bulbs B.V. is a member of the BKD, the Dutch inspection service for flower bulbs (member no. 02912), and registered for plant health (phytosanitary reg. no. NL-131701878).
  • Checked by hand: every bulb is checked for size, firmness, health and correct dormancy before it leaves our warehouse.
  • Stored correctly: bulbs are kept in climate-controlled storage until they ship.
  • 100% flowering guarantee: if a bulb does not flower although you followed our planting instructions, email support@amarylia.com with your order number and a photo.

Will my flowers look exactly like the photo?

Amaryllis are natural products, so the colour and shape of the flowers can vary slightly from the photos, depending on light and growing conditions. We do our best to show each variety as it really looks.
