The exceptional colour combination together with the beautiful star shape gives this variety an exotic appearance. The flowering stem emerges from a small bulb and reaches up to 60 cm. It produces about 6 buds. And each bulb produces 2 to 3 stems. Flowering time: early to mid-summer.
Sonatini™ is a new crop on the bulb market and is ideal for growing in pots and gardens, for patio decoration and for cutting. The varieties named Sonatini™ have been bred to meet the requirements of outdoor culture in the Netherlands. Thus they are ideally suited for garden planting all over Europe.
Sonatini Hippeastrum™ is an excellent garden plant. The bulbs should be planted in a sunny location from early April until late July. The bulbs bloom 6-8 weeks after planting. The plants should be watered regularly during dry periods. Additional feeding during the growing season can be done with a general fertiliser such as NPK 12-10-18. After flowering, garden plants begin their dormancy period (in late autumn). You can reuse the bulbs the following year. But they should be dug up for the winter. Dry them out in a well-ventilated room at room temperature for a fortnight. Store them for 10 weeks (no less!) at a temperature of 5-12 °C.
Sonatini Hippeastrum™ can be used all year round as a potted plant. Plant the bulbs in containers so that a third of them are above the soil level. Peat and coco peat substrate is ideal for this purpose. Keep them in a well-lit room. The best temperature for bunting is between 16 °C and 20 °C. The plants will flower in 6-8 weeks after planting. For patio decoration, plant 3-5 bulbs in a large container for a spectacular show on your patio. Care for them as you would for a potted plant. Fertilise every 6 weeks.

Guide and tips for planting amaryllis(hippeastrum) bulbs
- Choose a pot that is at least 4 cm wider than the bulb and has drainage holes in the bottom.
- Fill the pot with well-draining soil, leaving about 2 cm of space at the top.
- Place the bulb in the center of the pot, with the pointed end facing up.
- Cover the bulb with soil, leaving the top one-third of the bulb exposed.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist, but not waterlogged.
- Place the pot in a warm, bright location with indirect sunlight.
- Water the plant only when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch.
- As the plant grows, support the stalk with a stake to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with bright, indirect sunlight.
